For the adults – Events and classes
Intro to drawing and painting with Nicola Hooper!
This course is designed for beginners and for those who need to refresh their skills or gain confidence in their art making. The course aims to be fun, informative and inspiring, with students introduced to various artists and drawing and painting styles. The course familiarises students with materials, colour theory, basic drawing and painting principles and techniques.
The course starts with observational drawing, working with charcoal and pencils to explore practical concepts of volume and tone. This then gets taken into acrylic paint. Over each term students explore projects such as still life, the principles of landscape, nature and botanical studies and the figure, each area explored in both drawing and paint.
The aim of the course is to inform and instil confidence, so at the conclusion, students feel confident in undertaking drawing or painting projects of their own choosing, in their own style, on any substrate.
Nicola Hooper holds a Master of Visual Arts with Class 1 Honors and is currently concluding her doctoral studies at QCA’s Griffith University. She is a practicing artist and teacher who has taught both adults and children for many years. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and she has been the recipient of a number of prestigious art prizes, grants and residencies.
